Starting out as an interior designer, I had apprehension about the information that I gave to my clients. I sometimes questioned my own advice and was unsure about just what was the right thing. I would bet than when beginning to decorate or redesign your own home, you have some of the same feelings.
After doing this for over 25 years, I gained confidence and assurance through practice and repetition—and so can you. The key is to learn what your likes are and what you like surrounding you in your home. Do you prefer a cozy, warm feeling or is it a sleek, modern environment that you desire?
Making your home a reflection of who you are and what you like is the key to making it really yours. Family photos, treasured collections, your favorite colors and items that tell the story of who really lives in this space.
Buy only what really strikes you—what really catches your attention– those items are the ones that speak to you. Pay attention because they are key to your developing your own signature taste and style.
You can do this—you know what you like and what makes you happy. Once you begin to feel comfortable with your own personal style, you will feel more confident purchasing items and arranging your home in a way that pleases you. Your home will all of a sudden feel more comfortable to you and feel like a personal sanctuary for you to return to.
